1996 - 2000: Victor L. Streib

Streib was born in Marion, Indiana in 1941. He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University in 1966. He received his J.D. from Indiana University in 1970. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar Association in 1970 and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar Association in 1987.

Beginning in 1970, Streib served as Associate Research Scientist, then Research Associate for the Institute for Research in Public Safety at Indiana University. Then from 1972-78 he served the Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Forensic Studies in the Department of Forensic Studies (now Criminal Justice).

In 1978, Streib joined the faculty of the New England School of Law as Associate Professor of Law until 1980.

Following this, he became a Visiting Professor and then Professor of Law at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. He held this position from 1980-96. Also at this institute, Streib served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1981-83.

Streib was a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law from 1983-84. He also was a Visiting Fellow for the Association of American Law Schools in Washington, D.C. from 1993-94.

He lectured on legal issues at Jagiellonian University in Poland in 1993 and at Cambridge University in England in 1989. He was a member of the Advisory Board at the University of Westminster School of Law in England in 1996.

In 1996, Streib joined the faculty at the Ohio Northern University College of Law as Dean and Professor of Law.

He has authored over 300 books, chapters, articles, and papers during his academic career. His research has been cited 28 times in opinions of the United States Supreme Court (1986-2005). As an attorney, he has served as a prosecuting attorney and a defense attorney, and he has represented juveniles and women convicted of murder before the United States Supreme Court and several state supreme courts. He also has testified before committees of the United States Congress and of seven state legislatures on these issues.

Streib has made numerous media appearances, including 60 Minutes, All Things Considered, Larry King Live, The Today Show on NBC, Time Magazine, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, and London Times, among others.

Streib is currently the Ella and Ernest Fisher Chair and a Professor of Law at the College of Law.
