Lawrence Neal Woodworth Memorial Lecture in Federal Tax Law and Policy

The Lawrence Neal Woodworth Memorial Lecture in Federal Tax Law and Policy recognizes one of Ohio Northern's most distinguised alumni: Lawrence Neal Woodworth, BA '40.

Woodworth devoted his entire professional career to the formulation and impementation of tax law and policy at the highest level. In 1944, he joined the staff of the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation as an economist. He became chief of staff in 1964, serving with great distinction until being named assistant secretary of the treasury for tax policy in 1977. Woodworth passed away in late 1977, and in January 1978, he posthumously received the Alexander Hamilton Award, the Treasury Department's highest honor.

The Woodworth Endowed Lectureship continues Woodworth's contributions to the tax profession via an annual presentation by a recognized expert in the field of United States tax law and policy.

This year's lecture will be presented by Nina Olson, the National Taxpayer Advocate of the IRS. Nina Olson has been the National Taxpayer Advocate since 2001. She is a strong advocate for fairness to taxpayers within a tax system that seems devoted to serving many other goals. Before she joined the IRS, MS. Olson specialized in tax controversey work. She also established and ran the first free-standing low income taxpayer clinic in the country.The example of her clinic led  great expansion of such clinics all over the country. Ms. Olson received her BA in Fin Arts from Bryn Mawr, her JD from North Carolina University and her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown.
