Professor Helmer joined the College of Law in 2005 as visiting assistant professor of law and was named assistant director of the ONU LLM Program in 2011. Prior to joining the ONU faculty, she taught at the University of Michigan Law School, Capital University Law School, was professor and associate dean for academic affairs at St. Petersburg Institute of Law in St. Petersburg, Russia, and assistant professor at the Kazakh State University School of Law in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Professor Helmer currently serves as Co-Chair of the International Anticorruption Committee of the ABA Section of International Law and edits the Committee's publications, including the award-winning International Anticorruption Committee Newsletter. She was a recipient of the Open Society Institute International Policy Fellowship and served on the Board of Directors of the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law in Washington, D.C.
