Public Interest Program
THANKS FOR A GREAT AUCTION!
Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2018 Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law Public Interest Auction a success. Over $10,000 was raised to provide assistance to law students who will spend the summer working in unpaid public interest positions.
Special thanks to Auctioneer Dave Wedertz for volunteering his time and talent and to Special Occasions Catering for a great lunch.
It was a fun afternoon with good food and competitive bidding for many great items. As always, dinner with faculty was a big hit, as was Everybody Loves Harry t-shirts and the Dean's parking spot.
ONU Law Career Services and the student-led organization PILA (Public Interest Law Association) sponsor the ONU Public Interest Auction each year to raise money for scholarships for qualified law students who are working in unpaid public interest legal positions over the summer.
Since 1994, over $140,000 has been awarded to 135 qualified law students who have worked in the public interest sector around the world assisting those who are most in need: abused women and children, individuals impaired physically and mentally, the elderly, minorities and other underprivileged persons and groups. These scholarships help with the out-of-pocket living expenses incurred while donating their time and legal skills to those in need.
Students are selected based on their academic records, past involvement in public service, and their desire to continue in public interest fields after graduation from law school.
The Public Interest Live Auction, Silent Auction and Raffle is supported by businesses, alumni, community members, students and student organizations along with faculty, staff and administration of the law college and the university. Everyone is invited to participate in the auction by donating and bidding on items.
If you would like to donate auction items or make financial donations for 2019, please call Law Career Services at 419-772-2249 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We appreciate your support of this worthy cause.
