Post-JD LL.M. Careers
The faculty and staff of the LL.M. program work closely with LL.M. students interested in careers in international development and law reform. They help students develop their résumés for international careers and utilize their contacts with international development organizations to bring the applications of ONU LL.M. students to the attention of the appropriate persons. The program’s summer externship provides students with valuable personal contacts with development professionals and organizations familiar with the ONU Democratic Governance and Rule of Law program. Post-JD students also are provided with individual memberships in the premier international development job placement service, which gives access to career opportunities around the world.
Graduates of the LL.M. program at ONU have taken a variety of career paths. Those interested in a career in the international realm have found positions with international development organizations, multinational corporations, national defense contractors and international finance organizations. One graduate received a Fulbright Research Award to spend a year in Kosovo performing research and preparing recommendations on the local bar association. Two LL.M. graduates have full-time university teaching positions, while others have become state and federal judicial clerks or work in private practice or government positions anticipating international engagement in the future.
