Pettit College of Law to dedicate renovated Alumni Moot Court Room

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law will dedicate its newly renovated Alumni Moot Court Room on Friday, Sept. 30, at 5 p.m.

PhotoThe Alumni Moot Court Room contains the latest in courtroom technology and provides students an opportunity to hone their advocacy skills in a real-world environment. The Alumni Moot Court Room is a trial courtroom that seats 31 students and is used for classes and moot court competitions. The room, originally designed as a courtroom, is now used as a classroom 80 percent of the time.

Due to the generosity of the classes of 2008 and 2010, bequests from the White and Walinski families, and a donation from the Ohio State Bar Association Litigation Section, a number of enhancements were made to improve the space.

The renovation added technology in the courtroom, including a custom Amish-built high-tech podium with an automated Crestron control panel, which integrates operation of the computer, sound system, document camera, guest laptop and DVD/VCR. New displays include a 60-inch LCD monitor and two 42-inch monitors. The room also was expanded with new custom-built tables, which are wired for laptops, new seating and a wireless access port. The donors’ commitment to improving the room and providing state-of-the-art technology for future students is greatly appreciated.

Future improvements will include cameras that can record students during activities such as trial advocacy and moot court. Miller Watson Architects of Columbus, LIVE! Technologies of Columbus, Country View Barn of Lima, and M&W Construction of Lima all worked on this project.
