Shelby Core is an undergraduate alumna of ONU who decided to return to campus to pursue a career in law. She has wanted to be an attorney from a young age, drawn to the constantly changing landscape that lawyers must navigate. “You get to meet different people and hear different problems,” she says. “It’s different every day.” She is thankful for the outreach that the College of Law offers because she is able to meet and work with clients while still committed to her education. “I get to apply what I learn here to the real world,” she says. Her involvement in the Student Bar Association and the Agricultural Law Society and serving as a student representative on the curriculum committee have exposed her to different aspects of the law. “You’re developing your understanding of the law each year,” she says.
After graduation, Shelby would like to stay in the area and work in general law practice so that she can continue to experience new things. She also is drawn to agricultural law and would be happy to work in that field as well. Her time in the college has been challenging in many aspects, but she appreciates the ability to look back and see all of the hard work that she has accomplished. “The best piece of advice that I’ve been given,” she says, “is to go where you think that you’re going to be the most successful. To me, I know that that’s Ohio Northern.”
