Ashley Roberts came to ONU Law for the unique Summer Starter Program. Thanks to weekly meetings with the academic support team, weekly group teaching assistant sessions, and one-on-one attention from faculty in the Summer Starter Program, Ashley was able to get a jump-start on her legal education. She appreciates the small class sizes, which give students and professors the ability to work closely together – something law students might not experience at larger schools.
“The ONU Law faculty really care about the students and their success. They all work endlessly to help students find summer internships or to help them understand the material,” Ashley shared. She encourages future ONU Law students to take advantage of professors’ office hours. “It is better in the long run if you have them help you understand the material as soon as it doesn’t make sense, instead of waiting until right before finals.”
She believes that ONU Law has helped prepare her for a professional career after graduation by providing many opportunities to develop oral argument and writing skills, as well as opportunities to network and connect with local attorneys. “I was able to secure an internship after attending a ‘mixer’ with several attorneys in the area,” she said. “There are many great resources in the school to help students learn, grow and become successful.”
According to Ashley, “my best experience at ONU Law has been meeting people from all different backgrounds who want to enter different legal fields.” More than two-thirds of ONU Law students come from outside of Ohio, and from here they go on to practice in all 50 U.S. states and abroad. Interacting with diverse students, faculty, staff and alumni provides ONU Law students, like Ashley, unique opportunities to build lifelong relationships that define the ONU Law experience.
