Financial Aid Process

All students who are accepted into the College of Law must complete a financial aid file which includes:
  • Financial aid transcripts from each college or university you have attended
    • The transcript forms are mailed to you after your admission application is received
  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • FAFSA forms are available in late autumn at the Financial Aid Office or at your undergraduate school. You should file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 of each year.
  • Visit: www.FAFSA.ed.gov to fill out the application.
Financial Aid packets will begin being sent to admitted students after March 1, 2013. If you submit your FAFSA after March 1, it will take around a week to process and send your financial aid packet.

Student Loan Programs

Students needing assistance to help meet the costs of tuition and living expenses have several available options: Federal Direct Stafford Loan, Federal Gradu- ate PLUS Loan and Private Student Loan. A FAFSA is required for all Federal loans.

Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan
ONU Law students are eligible for up to $20,500 in subsidized Stafford loans. Federal loans are de- ferred until the student graduates or falls below half- time. The grace period is six months. Unsubsidized means that the interest accrues on the loan once the loan is disbursed. To apply, visit www.studentloans.gov and complete both the entrance counseling for graduate students and master promissory note.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan
In addition to the Federal Direct Stafford Loan, students are eligible for a Grad PLUS Loan. Payments on this loan are deferred until six months after graduation
or end of enrollment and may be used to cover any remaining educational needs up to the total cost of attendance. To apply, visit www.studentloans.gov and complete the loan application, the entrance counseling for graduate students and master promissory note.

Private Loans
Private student loans are offered through private lenders. A student can borrow up to their cost of attendance minus all other financial aid sources. Interest usually begins accruing once the funds are disbursed to the student account
