ONU LL.M. Program
Studying Law and Democracy at Ohio Northern University
Gathering new knowledge and developing new skills for building democracy around the world may seem like an unusual reason to travel to a small town in Ohio. But the location of the school, its faculty, and its resources make Ada and Ohio Northern an ideal place to combine the practice and theory of building democratic institutions. We invite you to look through these pages and learn more about our College of Law and the LLM in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law.
Mission of the LL.M. Program
The LL.M. in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law seeks to provide a select group of young lawyers and law students with the training and tools to implement law reforms that support stable democratic institutions and the rule of law in a free-market economy. The core of the LL.M. program is real-world experience, combining the professional experiences of the international students and the externships of the concurrent and post-JD students with the broad experience of the faculty in development and law reform. The learning experience is a unique combination of rigorous academic instruction in specially designed courses, field experiences and presentations by outside experts, and the shared stories of legal professionals working to change the world. The results are successful graduates fully engaged in development, law and governance in more than 30 countries and a variety of organizations and institutions.
Three Different Ways to Achieve Our LL.M.
The LLM program is offered to students at three phases of their professional life:
- Foreign lawyers from transitional states with experience in governance and law reform
- Students just entering law school who would like to gain both their JD and LL.M.in three years
- American lawyers seeking to complement or redirect their career with the LL.M. in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law
There are three separate websites accessible from this page explaining each of these paths to the LL.M. degree, including, among other things, admission requirements, the program of study, placement and success stories, and links to important documents and other related sites. Please contact us if you have any questions about our programs. We look forward to hearing from you.
