Melissa Kidder appointed to Commission on Professionalism

The Supreme Court of Ohio has appointed Professor Melissa Kidder, Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law, to serve as a member of the Commission on Professionalism. Kidder will serve a three-year term ending December 31, 2024.

Among Kidder’s duties on the Commission will be to promote professionalism among attorneys admitted into the practice of law across the state of Ohio. She will also spearhead a networking symposium to be held in Columbus to enhance communication between law students and practicing attorneys.

“I am excited for the opportunity,” says Kidder. “I am also proud to be representing ONU Law and to be an advocate for the profession. Part of my role at ONU is to facilitate student externships and the legal clinic that provides our law students with practical, real-world experience. I look forward to doing that now on a broader scale.”

Kidder graduated from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law in 2008. She began her career as a staff attorney at the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals and then came to ONU as assistant director of academic support. Having an opportunity to practice law, she went to work for Eastman & Smith Ltd. as an associate attorney in the estate planning section. She then returned to ONU as director of legal research and writing, and now serves as the director of legal clinics and externships and assistant professor of law.
